This Summer get creative and keep cool at a Vegas Painting Party.

020

Why not try a painting party this summer. It will be fun, keep you cool and is really inexpensive. Go on, bring out your inner Van Gogh!

Yesterday I went to my first painting party and had a blast. My wife asked me if I wanted to try it,  I said,”Yes.” An email to Groupon went out next www.groupon.com/deals/vegas-painting-parties and before you know it we had printed out our Groupon  and were ready to go……

Painting PartyThese events are held at various restaurants around the Vegas area, on a very frequent basis, they have become quite the rage on the East Coast and are beginning to catch on big time here in the West. During the three hour session you are supplied with a mounted canvas, brushes, all the paint you need and enough direction to end up at the end of the session with a completed ‘work of art!’ There was a really nice attention to the guidance you were given to how much guidance was given–you were never micro-managed, but were certainly afforded every thing you needed to know and were given an excellent road map of how to get the job done.

The cost of this session was$16.99 for single admission and $29.99 for a double admission. Effectively the Groupon halved the ticket price. Given the cost of the materials involved and the way the event was planned I thought this was a bargain. The most interesting part of the demographics was the amount of men who were present and thoroughly enjoying experimenting with their artistic skills. We were all enjoying ourselves immensely with many of the guys commenting with obvious delight that it was the first time they had done anything remotely like this since junior school!

Each session involves two variables,

1     What is the picture that you are going to paint. Ours was a pastoral scene of a series of columns and an expanse of sea and sky. Those columns were tough!the painting

2     Which restaurant you are based in.

We were at the Havana Cafe in Green Valley and our 6.00-9.00 pm session gave us a full hour of Happy Hour,. We had two glasses of red wine, two sensational Mojitos and two delicious Cuban appetizers and the bill was $35 bucks tip included–we are still running on the ‘two for one’ principle here. The food and drink was delivered to you as you painted so you never lost your concentration. It really took three hours solid work to complete that picture.

This was a really delightful experience that seemed to be equally enjoyed by couples and solo attendees. You could feel the palpable delight of the group over getting to be creative, having fun, not have to organize supplies, not have to clean up and enjoying a great happy hour! Our total expenditure for the event, drinks and food was a total of $65 for two. Was it worth it? Would we do it again? Well, we have already booked the next one! I may not get any of my pictures hung up in the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts, but I am going to have fun creating them and enjoy the process.
