An old Broadway adage says that if delighted crowds bounce out singing the show’s songs, you’ve got a hit. The new Forever Doo Wop and Forever Motor City shows at the classic Riviera Hotel & Casino are both big hits.

I wanted to catch these shows when they first opened last spring. Recently, Donna Rose and I got the opportunity. During its short tenure, I kept reading and hearing good things about the shows. How they really capture the moment. And we were not disappointed one bit. The shows hit home runs on all fronts.

Veteran Broadway Director Gary Kupper brings together a brilliant and talented cast of former members of legendary Motown musical groups including The Spinners, The Main Ingredient and The Marvelettes.

The eight-member cast include Early Clover, who performed for 25 years as the lead singer of Cornell Gunter’s Coasters. He is joined by Grammy-nominated singer Jerome Jackson. Tonja Foster, Serena Henry, Terrence D. Forsythe, Gwendolyn Moore Forsythe, and Willie Greene, Jr. bring talent, looks and energy to the ensemble.

Both shows are produced by Red Mercury Entertainment, a live entertainment company that produces and manages shows and showrooms in Las Vegas.

Forever Motor City at 9pm offers a non-stop, high-energy trip down memory lane. The iconic Motown sound, featuring the hit songs we grew up on, is recreated so well it puts everyone into the moment. Songs include such American icons as Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and the rest of the renowned Motown roster.

Motown songs performed by the stellar cast include: “For Once in My Life,” “My Girl,” “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch,” “I Heard It Through The Grapevine,” “Pride and Joy,” and “Stop In The Name of Love,” along with many others.

Both shows really engage the audience. Most of us know these songs and have sang them all a hundred times, and the cast invites everyone to join in, which we thought was great doo wop fun and a finger poppin’ time!

It’s a joy to get together with a crowd of mostly older folks who lived this music and join together to celebrate the greatness of the era. If you have family and friends visiting from out of town this summer, the Forever shows are a guaranteed good time at a modest price.

But don’t wait for company. Get together a group of friends and go some night soon. You’ll feel like a kid again.

That’s because there’s lots of dancing, both onstage and in the crowd. The Forever Do Wop show at 7pm features a trivia contest to keep everybody guessing, and the songs performed throughout the show are true American classics, including: “In the Still of the Night,” “Earth Angel,” “My Prayer,” “Da Doo Ron Ron,” “Maybe,” “Duke of Earl,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” and many more Doo Wop hits.

Donna & I like going to the Riviera because it’s so easy to get there and park. We go to Paradise Road and turn west. Valet and self-parking are back there, and it’s just a short walk into the casino. Your party can get into a Strip property without having to drive on Las Vegas Blvd. Tickets for Forever Doo Wop and Forever Motor City are $39 plus tax and applicable fees for general admission and $59 plus tax and applicable fees for VIP seating. Both 70-minute shows are performed nightly at the Le Bistro Lounge inside the Riviera and tickets to each show are sold separately. Forever Doo Wop begins at 7:00 p.m., and Forever Motor City begins at 9:00 p.m.

All tickets can be purchased at the Riviera Box Office or through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com. Children under 12 are free with adult ticket purchase.

There is a 25% off senior discount on VIP tickets. The code is SNR25.

Recently saw Forever Motor City — what a GREAT show! High energy, excellent vocals, captivating personalities. Kept the audience singing and toe-tapping from first song to last. Highly recommend this wonderful show by a group of extremely talented performers!

  • GREAT SHOW. We loved the discount, would not have gone otherwise. The food was amazing, the energy of the performers was great. I thought it was more doowop, but thats okay. I prefer doowop to motown, but the show was wonderful.

  • This was a great show and dinner was awesome!!!! I love Motown but I thought it was going to be Doo Wop, my fault. I thought I put the date and time in and had trouble understanding what was happening. When I finally got to the end I noticed it was a different and time and show, which I know I didn’t do. Because I had so much difficulty in booking it, I decided to just confirm it.
I enjoyed this very much and if I get the opportunity, I will do it again.
